An order and an experiment

Another order! Someone heard about my bags and placed an order for TWO! Christmas presents...how thrilled am I. She is lovely and we had a very pleasant chat as we discussed what kind of bags she wanted. One of them is pretty much exactly Kristin's so I'm not going to post it. Here's the other one...a smaller version in a lovely, satiny reddish orange. I'm not typically drawn to orange and red, but I really like this fabric and how this turned out. So did Julio, my biggest critic (and my biggest fan) so that says something.(I know, I need a new model and a new photographer. Working on it!)And it's reversible! Solid brown on the other side, nice and neutral.The inside has one large pocket and one smaller velcro pocket inside the large pocket.

And here's my experiment. I had leftover fabric from Kristin's and was inspired by Scattered Seeds this weekend to make some smaller handbags/purses. So here we are.

Kelsey's bag

This bag now belongs to Kelsey, designer-sketcher-thrift-store-shopper extraordinaire. I only got the real version of the story behind this fabric this morning, as Kelsey had been wanting a bag made from some fabric she had made pillows out of and was going to give me the extras to make into a bag. But she apparently forgot the fabric when she was going to Jaimee's house (the fabric liaison) and swung by a thrift store and found THIS fabric. Lovely. I really liked the fabric and was delighted to make sweet Kelsey a bag. She loves Jill Zurzolo's stuff with her funky big buttons, so I decided to do the big button thing on her bag and think it turned out quite nicely! The flap. And the very thin orange fabric that I tried to find a use for.

It's reversible! If she wants to, she can add some big buttons to this side too and have the flap do up on either side.

bag for a cousin, bag for a friend, bag and gifts for the Swiss, a parcel to send

My friend, Kirsten, was trying to help me come up with a name for our little biz, and she was inspired by nursery rhymes (Down the Lane was a serious contender thanks to her), so this post title is dedicated to all you nursery rhymers out there.
First off, bag for a cousin: (This is the cousin that came over and sewed with me the other night...she cut out the fabric for this and I sewed it up!)
And, it's reversible! I think I'm going to make more reversible bags, seems fun.

Then, bag for a friend:
This is for my friend Kristen, who is having a baby girl within a month! Woohoo! One more thing to check off her "to do" list...get diaper bag. She picked out this fabric and I absolutely love it. I already have an order for another bag with this fabric!
diaper clutch. I hope all of you that gave your opinions on the last few diaper clutches approve of this one. Next time I'll make the flap a little bit longer, otherwise I'm quite happy with it.

And here are a couple of little purses I made for my Swiss friends, Kim and Callie. They are about 7 and 4.

This is a t-shirt for my godson, Luca. He just turned 10. The lovely and talented Kelsey (Jaimee's sister) drew this for us and I managed to figure out how to get it ironed on to a shirt. I had this idea about 4 months ago and only finished this project YESTERDAY! Yikes.

I hope to mail the Swiss package today or tomorrow...there's a bag in there too, for my friend Sandrine, as well as a "toque" for her husband Luigi...what's more Canadian than a toque!

My sewing machine was on the dining room table for about a week and I finally put it away. I think it's time to do some dishes and vacuum...:)

New style, what do you think?

I'm now playing with some different styles of bags, so this was what I came up with last night. I've decided Monday nights will be my sewing nights, as that is Julio's youth night and I have a quiet house to myself once the boys are in bed. Last night I had a special treat as my cousin Kristine came by to talk sewing with me! She hemmed a skirt, and cut out some material for a bag for herself and I sewed and we had the most lovely chat. And she loved my dehydrated apple slices so that was another big bonus :) . Fun night. Here's what I did:

And this is a bag I made on the weekend. It has no owner as of yet, and if it doesn't get snatched up soon I may just make this my new bag. It's getting tough to make nice bags and then give them away, so I may just need to keep this one for myself! That being said, I have a lot more of this material so I can always make another if someone is interested.

On another note, Jaimee and I have officially decided to go into "business" with an Etsy site...just need to take a bunch of pictures and sew up a few more things and we'll probably be good to go. I can't wait! We even have a name..."Lilypad"! Stay tuned...
